PCI Forensic Investigation In Detail

What is a PCI Forensic Investigation

A PCI Forensic Investigation (PFI) is a specific type of investigation, carried out following a payment card data breach.

Conducted by professionals who are approved as PCI Forensic Investigators, these investigations delve deep into the incident to uncover critical details about the breach.

The main objective of a PFI is to identify how the breach occurred, assess the scope of the breach and the volume of card data at risk, and provide recommendations for remediation and prevention of future incidents.

This involves a comprehensive examination of the compromised systems to determine the methodologies used by attackers to gain unauthorised access to payment card data.

Our PCI Forensic Investigation (PFI) Service

Our team of experts will explain and discuss the process in a clear and simple manner, helping you to identify (and if necessary to contain) the breach and conduct an investigation suitable to your circumstances. Our senior staff have been conducting PFIs since before the official scheme began.

We also act as a PFI Expert Witness to assist with any potential litigation process and impart our knowledge for civil disputes or appeals.

Our expert witness experience within the criminal prosecution and court system, combined with our expert knowledge of the PFI process, makes us a natural partner to assist when required.

The Experts in PCI Forensic Investigations (PFI)

As well as being one of only a handful of globally approved PFI companies certified by the PCI SSC and payment card brands, 3B Data Security is also an approved PCI SSC Qualified Security Assessor Company (QSAC). This enables us to perform PCI Compliance consulting, and provide advisory and audit services to help merchants obtain certification against the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Our senior consultants have been Qualified Security Assessors (QSA) since 2008, and have been investigating cardholder data compromises for Visa and MasterCard since 2007, subsequently becoming Core PCI Forensic Investigators (PFIs) status when the PCI Security Standards Council formed the PCI PFI Program in 2011.
